Image0142At Williamson Pediatric Dentistry, it is our goal to build and maintain healthy smiles for future generations. The easiest way to do this is through establishing a dental home through routine dental cleanings and examinations.

We truly believe that regular dental examinations are important in establishing and maintaining good oral health. Prior to an examination, one of our clinical team members will provide a cleaning for your child. Upon completion of the cleaning, a dental examination is performed. At this time, the dentist will do a thorough assessment of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. The dentist will evaluate each tooth on an individual basis both physically and radiographically. While the exam is performed, the dentist will look for any problems that need to be addressed. This can include many different things including:

– Dental caries (cavities)
– Soft tissue concerns (gingivitis, canker sores, fungal infections, dental abscesses, oral pathology or cancerous lesions, enlarged tonsillar tissue, high frenum attachments, etc.)
– Periodontal disease
– Orthodontic growth patterns (dental and skeletal)
– Impacted teeth
– Ectopic (abnormal) eruption of permanent teeth
– Congenitally missing teeth
– Supernumerary (extra) teeth

When necessary, radiographs (X-rays) will be taken to help us have a more detailed look at your child’s teeth as well as surrounding soft and hard tissues. This will give our dentist a more accurate picture of what cannot be seen with the naked eye, aiding in a comprehensive picture for diagnosis of any problems that may be detected.

Upon completion of the examination, our dentist will complete a treatment plan based of findings noted during the exam. Those findings will then be presented to you and treatment options can be discussed to come up with a comprehensive plan for your child so that their oral health can improved and optimized.
